Privacy policy

Mahj Mentor is a game for learning American Mahjong. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and there are no ads.

Renaissance Applied Intelligence LLC ("we") makes Mahj Mentor. This policy covers the Mahj Mentor apps for iPhone and Android and this website.

What stays on your phone

Your progress, settings, badges and saved games are stored on your phone. The app keeps a second copy in your phone's app storage so a full phone cannot wipe your progress.

What we receive, and why

The leaderboard

When you play, the app sends the name you chose, a random player ID made on your phone, and your points, game counts, daily challenge best and rank to our server, so you can appear on the leaderboard. Other players can see your name and scores. Choose any name you like; it does not need to be your real name.

An account, if you make one

An account is optional. It lets you move your progress to another phone. We store your username, your password as a salted one-way hash (we cannot read it), and a backup of your progress. We do not ask for your email address.

Requests and bug reports you choose to send

If you send a request from Settings, we receive your note, your player name, a picture if you add one (a picture of the app screen, or a photo you pick), and details that help us understand the problem: the app version, your device type and screen size, the screens you just used, recent error messages, and a short summary of your progress and current game. The request is stored on our server and emailed to us so we can follow up.

Subscriptions

Mahj Mentor Plus is sold through Apple or Google, which handle your payment. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app ID and the purchase details from the store. We never see your payment card.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard request logs, including IP addresses, to keep the service secure and working.

What we never do

• No ads, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
• We never sell or rent your information or share it for advertising.
• The app does not use your location, contacts or microphone. The camera and your photos open only when you choose to add a picture to a request.

Who helps us run Mahj Mentor

Netlify hosts our server and stores leaderboard rows, accounts and requests. Resend delivers request emails to us. RevenueCat checks subscriptions. Apple and Google handle purchases. Each uses the information only to provide its service to us.

How long we keep it

Leaderboard rows and accounts stay until you delete them, or until we remove rows that have been inactive for a long time. Requests are kept while we need them to help you. Server logs follow our hosting provider's retention period.

Deleting your information

In the app, open Settings and choose Delete my data. That removes your leaderboard name and scores, your account and its backup if you made one, and everything saved on your phone. You can also email [email protected] with your player name or username and we will delete it for you. See Delete your data.

Children

Mahj Mentor is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
